Multi-Focal Contact Lenses
Multi-focal contact lenses were traditionally designed for correcting presbyopia– an age-related loss of the eyes’ ability to focus up close . However research has shown that the lens reduces elongation of the eye due to constant refocusing by correcting for near and far to allow for clear vision at all distances.
How does using soft contact lenses differ compared to regular contact lens use?
Rather than using contact lenses or prescription glasses designed to correct a person’s vision at a set distance, wearing multi focal contacted for myopia control is a committed treatment plan to reduce the underlying cause of myopia progression. For this reason, patients are required to wear the contact lenses at least 6 days a week and 10-12 hours a day for a full year to receive the full benefits of the treatment. To ensure the best outcome, patients are monitored at 1 week, 1 month and 6 months after initial evaluation and fitting.
Our office carries several different soft contact lens brands for myopia control, such as MiSight Daily Contact Lenses.
MiSight lenses with ActivControl Technology are one of the first FDA approved soft contact lenses that correct for nearsightedness and slow the progression of myopia in children. Lenses are worn during the day and disposed of at night. They are easy to handle and safe to use.
